The Next Meeting:

  • MEETING DATE: October 25th, Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. at The Bromley Room. "Also, on Sunday, October 9th, we are gathering people together to go up to the Yagers to help them harvest their food. They need help so we're organizing to spend at least 5 or 6 hours there. We'll be going early, around 8:30 a.m. just in case it is hot that day. If you can come, bring a dish to share, gardening gloves and clippers for the bramble. We will probably bring a couple of shovels as well."
  • LOCATION: The Bromley Room in the Florence Public Library
  • DIRECTIONS:
  • SUMMARY: To be announced after the meeting...

Summary of meeting September 20th, 2011:

  • MEETING DATE: 4:00 PM Tuesday, September 20th, 2011.
  • SUMMARY: To be announced after the meeting...

Summary of meeting August 9, 2011:

  • SUMMARY: The meeting was held at Ann Waters' home and we are still awaiting the summery.

Summary of meeting July 12 2011:

  • We came to a larger group agreement, by consensus, of the name GROW.
  • We decided on a new meeting style, and will begin meeting at different member's yards for a more hands on experience. On Tuesday, August 9, we will meet at Ann Waters'.
  • A lot of people are looking for something they can do to support our efforts at GROW. We will be adding to the site, a running list of ideas for how people can get active, even if they are unable to make it to the meetings.
  • We discussed what each person's interests are in regards to GROW, and a common theme is "What can I grow in my yard?" Meeting on site, in people's yards, will enable each member to contribute what they know about growing in the micro-climate/s of that person's yard.
  • John Getz has offered to take people on a mushroom hunt. John has a depth of knowledge about edible mushrooms in our local area. It was suggested we have a field trip! Those interested, let's organize an outing.
  • I think John Yager said it well, when he expressed the importance of "creating ecologies of biodiversity in our yards." By emphasizing perennial plants in our yards, we create a more sustainable, edible food source that will last into the future.
  • To learn more about consensus, check out this article.
