Comparison Shopping For Free Shopping Carts

Shopping carts online are very common, but if you have never set one up they can seem daunting. There are more choices then you can shake a stick at and that can be the first hurdle you come to. To simplify the matter let's break them down a bit into simple categories. There are hosted or non-hosted carts. Hosted means that the cart provider hosts the carts and does all the technical stuff to make it all go. If you host the cart yourself (un-hosted) then you take on the job of dealing with technical issues or you have to hire someone to deal with them. So why not go with hosted? Your cart is on someone else's domain and so is all your traffic.

Free or paid: there many free solutions out there and a huge amount of paid solutions. Other categories to consider are open source or closed source and simple to full featured. In this article we will be focusing on our favorite carts which are free (un-hosted) open source shopping carts that we will install on our own domain. Printing International Labels In Paypal And Ebay

They put the stickers on then took them off

Ebay has changed the way international labels are printed online. Ubuntu has changed where Sun Java is stored in the repositories. The post office has changed the way they process Express. Ebay has confirmed issues with printing out of both Paypal and Ebay. The combination makes printing out of Ubuntu 10.10 or beyond complicated to figure out. Worse yet, there is no test label in Ebay so you will be buying expensive labels until you figure this out. Sure, you can get a refund, but you have wait two weeks. We lost a $38 label in our efforts. And if international customers are waiting for their express packages, they will want to know what the hold up is. In Ebay, you set preferences as to where you print (whether you know that or not) as some settings are the default. One setting controls if you print in Ebay or Paypal. Ubuntu (Linux) requires Sun (TM) Java for printing labels in Paypal and web page embedded Adobe PDF for Ebay. We did not attempt to get web page embedded Adobe set up in Firefox, as the Ebay forums suggested there were still a lot of issues. Instead, we changed our Ebay preferences to NOT print in Ebay. Myebay > Account > Site Preferences > Shipping preferences > Show > Pay for shipping and print U.S. Postal Service labels on eBay > UN-Check.

Piwik The Open Source Analytics

Piwik is an open source analytics program for viewing your web site traffic and traffic patterns. This is useful to help you sculpt your site into what really works for your visitors. You can study a lot of metrics and learn what pages are popular and which ones are not. For example, you can see what pages get a high bounce rate which means that your visitors take one look and hit the back button. Piwik can also help you track down 404 errors and other details that add up over time for your overall traffic.

We have recently moved a number of our sites and client sites to Piwik. We like the over simplicity of the GUI and the fact that you can embed your stats on your web site or blog if you want to. Plus the program and the API are open source. We like that we can track the stats for a number of web sites in one simple to use interface. We made use of the feature of using special tracking code our new 404 error page, blocking our own IP so we don't to show up in our own stats and learned how all from the easy to follow FAQ. We Like it, we use it and we recommend it!
